Donkey Sanctuary

Donkeys are the backbone of the economy in Lamu Town. With no motorised vehicles, pack donkeys are relied upon to move goods, suitcases, building materials and people around the timelessly beautiful town.

Donkey Sanctuary Kenya’s seafront clinic in the heart of the town has been helping donkeys and owners since it opened its doors over 30 years ago.

This sanctuary was established by the international Donkey protection Trust of Sidmouth , UK, to improve the lot of the islands hardworking beasts of burden.

Donations are highly appreciated during visits.
